Water!
Many students at UPES want information about what the food is like in Argentina! Above you'll see water which is sold in bottles. It's very similar to the USA with the exception of a unique choice. In Argentina you must select "water with bubbles" or "water without bubbles." You'll see the two different kinds if you look closely at the photos. The blue label reads, "Sin Gas." (Without bubbles). This is what we usually drink in the USA. The red label reads, "Con Gas." (With bubbles) This is basically carbonated spring water.

Mate
Sra. Carrizo taught us that a favorite Argentinean hot drink is called "Mate."
This is a machine that was located at a gas station.
It is used for people to refill their thermoses with hot water.
Many people from Argentina drink Mate all day long. It reminds us of hot tea.
Here is a close up photo of the advertisement on the machine.
They are showing a little girl enjoying her mate.
Mate is for all ages. It's very typical in Argentina.
Humita en chala
The outside of this dish is not eaten.
The food is wrapped in corn husk for decoration.
Inside the Humita is a filling that is made with
ground corn, cheese, onion, and peppers.
It reminds us of flavorful mashed potatoes.
This is a traditional dish in Argentina.
Empanada
Wow, what a delicious speciality in Argentina.! These are about the size of your palm. A person can easily eat a few for a meal. They are a homemade bread shell that is filled with either beef, chicken, or cheese. They care wrapped up and baked to a golden brown.
Dr. Patschke's favorite empanada is the chicken!
Meet Terry, Claudia, and Amy! They are cooking a lunch for a special meal. You'll
see here that they are chopping veggies to create a beautiful salad!
Broccoli Bob was excited to join in the fun!
These are some of his favorite foods!
At a restaurant, Dr. Patschke ordered a salad. On the menu it stated that the salad included tomatoes, corn, eggs, and cheese. She assumed that it would be served on a bed of lettuce. She was wrong. There's no lettuce with this salad, but there are plenty of tomatoes! Delicious!!
Broccoli Bob has found many healthy choices in Argentina.
He's very happy!
Juan, a physical education teacher, shows Broccoli Bob
how to grill Argentinean style!
This is called, "Asado!"
Choripan! Sra. Carrizo's favorite food! Now we know why...wow! It's very flavorful!
Fresh bread, hot grilled sausage, red tomato, crisp lettuce and a touch of mayonnaise.
Yummmm!!!
Fruit tart (pie) is a special dessert (among many) in Argentina.
This beautiful pie was created at a bakery.
It hosts peaches, pineapple, and kiwi!
Underneath the fruit is a layer of creamy goodness followed
by a layer of "Dulche de Leche" which tastes like carmel.
On the bottom was a crunchy sweet crust.
Sra. Carrizo and Dr. Patschke went for a walk and we found this healthy garden growing behind a
restaurant. The owners made this scarecrow to keep the birds away!
What will we learn about next?
You'll find out soon!
Check back often and stay connected!
